Audio recording is often disregarded or ignored by new and even not so new video makers yet getting your sound right is the first step in moving the production to broadcast quality. Utilising Northern Visions digital camera and sound gear, this workshop covers the techniques of sound recording, line and microphone levels, balanced and unbalanced signals, phantom power supplies, windshields, metering and monitoring, use of mixers, booming, mic selection, wild track and ambience. Participants will record on location in a team approach with everyone having an opportunity for hands on experience. The results will be analysed and discussed. Difficult sound recording situations and audio problems will be addressed.
Simon Wood has many years of experience recording for documentary, news and drama, as well as a working knowledge of music and wildlife recording.
