Video is a very exciting medium to work in, you can learn all sorts of skills using it. However do bear in mind that the workshops require concentration and commitment from participants. These taster workshops are an introduction which should help assist in planning more ambitious projects.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
Workshops are usually in 3-4 hour sessions, morning or afternoon and are principally conducted by one tutor with an assistant.
You should plan for at least 4 workshops.
Workers in charge of young people are expected to assist with the young people.
A suitable space should be assigned for the workshop to take place. A workshop can take place at Northern Visions Media Centre or your premises. We would advise you to have your workshop at Northern Visions so we can demonstrate editing and a range of equipment. We have ground floor disabled access however disabled toilet access is in an adjoining building.
A working group usually consists of between four and six people to give maximum 'hands-on' experience. However the workshop may eventually involve a larger group, actors etc., if for example, the project is a drama.
If there are disabled people wishing to take part Northern Visions will expect an adequate level of supervision and must be informed beforehand of the level of ability of disabled participants.

The workshops for all members of the group cover:
basic digital camera operation interviewing techniques lighting scripting sound Intro to non-linear editing
While some organisers may have a certain programme idea that they want their group to realise this may not be possible as workshops are intended to make participants familiar with equipment usage and concepts. They are not designed to engage in programme production. Film making is after all a craft and takes longer than this to learn.
You also have the opportunity to discuss the viability of future projects, how to fundraise for it and the services Northern Visions can provide which includes low cost hire of equipment.
Back-up material and information sheets supplied include: technical information, fundraising information and a booklist on film and video production.
COSTS
Workshops cost in the region of £120 per session plus travel expenses. (This rate is subsidised by our funders.)
