Inside Studio 23 
Situated in the former DeLorean factory premises, Mo McDevitt, the Studio’s manager, founded it starting from scratch. Today it houses photographers, ceramists, a contemporary jeweler and visual artists whether established or emerging. Opportunity, co-operation, skill-sharing and mutual aid is the studio’s ethos.

John Kindness - Retrospective Exhibition
NvTv goes along to the see the exhibition which was part of the 2006 Belfast Festival at Queen's.  John is probably most famous for his Big Fish sculpture situated beside the Lagan Lookout, but is also know for other public works such as The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly (at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children) and the Waterfall of Souvenirs (Europa Bus station).

Neil Shawcross - A portrait
Acclaimed artist Neil Shawcross had the last major contemporary arts show in the Ulster Museum before its closure (for several years!) The exhibition: Forty Years of Portrait Painting was a large scale retrospective.  Royce Harper met him at the show to talk over his approach, style, history and influences.

Duke Special: 5 nights at the Belfast Empire

OUR GENERATION - JB VALLELY

Born in Armagh, J B Vallely was painting from an early age and by the time he was thirty was regarded as one of the most exciting Irish painters. He talks to Northern Visions about his love of music and his fondness for Armagh "There is something about Armagh... I couldn't live anywhere else".

PATCHWORK OF THE PAST
A look at the Articulate programme run by Community Arts Forum. The Atlas Women Centre in Lisburn have undertaken to produce a memory quilt as their project. The group facilitators and the women themselves speak about their hopes for the project and what they've learned most from the experience.

My Secret Garden
A portrait of the artist, Liam Breandán de Frinse. Liam begins by reminiscing about his apprenticeship in Harland and Wolf before deciding to become a full time artist. He attended classes under the influential John Luke. The film integrates Liam’s video diary as he works to complete his work for a one-man exhibition. The film is dedicated to Marion de Liam Frinse.

THE BEAT - Belfast Carnival Centre Launch Party

The Belfast Carnival takes place each year thanks to the work of The Beat Initiative, a unique organisation established in 1994 with the aim of creating a non-sectarian and inclusive public celebration in Belfast.   Originally located in East Belfast, The Beat Initiative recently moved their premises to Boyd Street on the lower Shankill, NvTv went along to find out more.

THE CASTLEROCK PAINTER
Filmed and Directed by Martin Nelson. Enjoy a ‘Castlerock Cocktail’ of spectacular north coast scenery, tastefully described in canvas, oils and watercolours. Memory lane is still there…I remember the quaint level crossing …Atlantic breakers bite and snap…feet encased in gritty wet sand…a golden carpet for endless Sunday School excursions. Oozing with oodles of ozone….that’s dreamy Castlerock.

KEEP OUR ARTS ALIVE

An Arts Sector rally to Save the Arts took place on Monday 10th December 2007 at Stormont, Belfast. Participants explain the importance of the arts and why it deserves additional financial support from the current budget. Keepourartsalive is a campaign by the arts sector and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to improve the outcome for the arts.

A WOMAN'S PART
Participants and facilitators from the Community Arts Forum's creative writing and drama project which explored the role of women activists during the conflict in Northern Ireland discuss their experience of the project. The programme includes readings from the book published at the end of the project featuring participants work.

ART & CONFLICT
This year the Arts Council conference focused on the issues surrounding conflict and what place the arts has within it. The programme contains a tour of the South African Constitutional Court with Justice Albie Sachs, a conversation with Sean Hillen, who designed the Omagh bomb memorial,  Zoë Lippett from the Wolverhampton Art Gallery tells us about their Troubles collection and Glenn Patterson talks to poet Michael Longley.

PAINT FOR PEACE

Danny Devenny and Mark Ervine are two muralists from opposite sides of the political divide. Together, they are crossing the sectarian boundaries of Northern Ireland bringing with them a positive outlook for the future with the murals they paint.

BELFAST MELA 2009

NvTv goes along to this year's Belfast Mela event which took place in Botanic Gardens. The event was organised by ArtsEkta to bring together the different ethnic minorities in the city and showcase their culture.
