Every new iMac has two superfast (400Mbps) FireWire ports built-in, so you can easily connect to high-speed devices like digital camcorders and the all important external firewire drives. This is what makes Macs so suitable and adapted to digital editing.

The iMacs are constantly changing in their spec so consult the Apple web site before you buy and learn more about what you can have and why. You can also buy direct from Apple. A faster processor, (good for rendering dissolves, effects) larger drive, (holds more video material) more memory (makes things run smoother) increases the expense.

Making movies with iMovie: video editing software.
The iMac also comes with iMovie 2, the famously easy-to-use video editing software that lets you make your own Desktop Movies. While this may be fine to get to know the concept of editing its use is far too frustrating to tuse seriously. We recommend Apple's Final Cut Pro edit software.
