6 April 2002
This was a big day. We hired VFG's bluescreen studio for the day and we had an electrician on board. David and I arrived early to set up the lighting and edit equipment to test whether the chromakey effect we need for the virtual game sections of the film would work. It did. The young people arrived and we got stuck into the shoot. We had brought the mono sound mixer, which proved very problematic, but we finally started shooting at around 1.30pm. The combination of sound problems, achieving a good performance and working out the composition of the shots made the shoot very slow but we managed to get it all done in the end except Gemma's lines which can be done anywhere. Martina had a problem understanding what it was we were doing with the chroma effect but the penny dropped about 3pm and she really took over at that point. The results were stunning visually and mostly OK soundwise. Paul, the computer graphics expert who is providing the structure of the board and the backgrounds, was there to make sure the final effect would be possible and effective.

Tuesday 9th April
Patsy arranged for a developer to be interviewed. We did the interview in a half-built house, which worked well. Susan was on camera and Martina monitored the sound. The interview went very well, Amelia and Cormac got him talking about a whole range of issues and we shot the answers from several angles. Martina got them to do cutaways around the estate and we made sure to do shots that would match with the bluescreen shots.
Unfortunately there was a mix up with the youth council representatives so we weren't able to do the interview with them but we rearranged it for next week.

Friday 12th April
I visited Magherafelt to set Mairead up for editing. We did a rough-cut of the opening scene and I left the iMac with her to carry on editing.
