Saturday 5th January

We had a session in Belfast before the bowling. We looked at the edit of the practice shoot. They were not very impressed but that might have been because it was too incomplete  - it's funny how a worked out piece can look awful at the rough edit stage when the planned FX, music and VO haven't been added and how an impromptu gathering of clips can look brilliant. We talked about the need to focus the whole group on the final video and how the group should be best organised to achieve a good result. We looked at the original proposal to reacquaint everyone with the theme of the video. We talked about models, model building and virtual Magherafelts. I showed the group extracts from a documentary that used a computer-generated model to illustrate a building. It was decided to split the group into two; the first half to plan the content and structure of the video, to think about directing, interviewees, locations etc; the other group is to brainstorm ideas for presentation, links and characterisation based on the output from the first group. It was decided that the 'brainstorm' group should get throwaway cameras to take pictures of the main buildings and locations in Magherafelt for reference.
