Children's Express (CE) is about young people learning through journalism. They have an office in Rosemary Street in Belfast where kids come after school and Saturdays to plan, research and write newspaper articles. These are often published in newspapers locally, nationally and internationally.
A group of half a dozen young people from CE will make a film about school students who have been excluded. Working along with them, are two youth members of a video group in Ardoyne who have direct experience of exclusion.
The groups have been meeting in Northern Visions and there has been a lot of discussion on the project. It's quite hard to get them to focus on particular issues. I've tried giving them 'homework' to do for the next session. As they will be using the CE office in between sessions at Northern Visions they should have the opportunity to actually do it! I'm not sure how seriously they will be taken when they contact adults about a subject like this. Confidentiality will almost certainly be an issue.
