Open Arts/Fleming Fulton,
January 9th

Today was the first session after Christmas, and it showed.  It was pretty tough getting the group motivated especially as this session would be almost entirely discussion based.  It's beginning to show that the group is eager to start the film process proper and for this reason they understood that a lengthy discussion to recap on previous weeks was necessary.

They were coming up with good ideas on how to show realistically and metaphorically the stories of their lives and their aspirations.  I think they now understand the ideas behind "creative" documentary film making.  They were given a task for the previous week to write a half page on were they are at present, where they hope to go, and how they're going to get there.  Next week we are going to ask the group to address the camera with their aspirations, and explore various ways of filming them e.g. Chromakey, to avoid a real matter of fact approach to the film look and composition.  This I hope will promote more creative approaches to story telling from them.
