Report on the Open Arts/Fleming Fulton youth film group November 14th 2001

This is a youth with disabilities project, as you know, so there are some controversial issues to be sorted out around issues like how to solve the problems of communication and find ways of communicating without undermining the individual. As workers on the project we have discussed angles and direction of the project, where interests lay and how we would communicate. We made a decision to be honest and up front. We also defined each role and how we would complement each other and planned the running of the workshop.

The workshop itself was a good use of time and the planning worked well. We watched the video (Children's Commissioner/Training Day), and discussed how it came across. Catherine's representation in the video worked really well, she highlighted issues of vulnerability and of being honest. The use of the video in the workshop worked well as a method for us to introduce ourselves and it allowed the group to be trained in the different roles involved. It put us on an even level with the group.
