Hothouse Kidz is managed by Northern Visions

Hothouse Kidz, six ten minute films being made by young people aged between 8 and 18 years in Northern Ireland, using a range of digital technology. All of the films are using broadcast standard formats. The films are being financed by the UK Film Council's First Light Award Scheme and by the Department of Culture, Arts & Leisure.

At Northern Visions, we believe that children and young people learn best through the practice of filmmaking, so that is why the young people's participation in the film projects has been maximised. If you are familiar with the UNICEF Ladder of Participation then, we are aiming to achieve ranking 8! Collective decision making is encouraged at every opportunity.

One of the projects is an "A Team". The A Team meet regularly as a club and they make their own film together. There are lots of workshops where young people can learn skills from adults who work professionally in the film industry. Whilst we are expecting a high quality film from A Team members, what we are also hoping is that A Team members will pass on the skills they have learnt to young people in the other five projects through a peer education scheme.
